DangerAce Gaimez

Description

DangerAce Gaimez was our first foray into the business of music, and ultimately the project that brought the three of us (Hannibal, JB, Ace) together as a team. This project started off as a “production demo”. This was the very early 2000s, and the average person has no clue how you get job in the music business. We knew that artist had to make demos and mail them in to hopefully get a deal, so we took that same approach as producers. Thus we found some studio acapellas online, as this was the hay day of Napster. We crafted some remixes and were going to send them off to labels in hopes of getting some action.  In the process of making these, we would test them at Hannibal and JB’s job, Wherehouse Music, a thriving music store in Mid City New Orleans. We would put our demos on some of the stereos they sold, and walk away, just to see if anyone would stop and pay attention. And they would. It was some of our first feedback of this kind, and for us it was awesome. After a couple weeks of doing this, Hannibal and JB moved up to playing the demos over the loud speaker in the store. That’s when things changed. One day while one of the songs was playing, a dude in line stopped and asked to buy whatever was playing. We explained that it was just a demo, only 6 songs, and wasn’t for sale. He then offered us 25 dollars for the 6 songs, and we immediately sold it to him and thus began a 3-4 month journey where we sold the demo, adding songs and making it an official release, moving thousands of copies.
